Alice has been actively exhibiting her oil paintings for seventeen years. While some of her paintings are plein air, much of her work has been painted in the studio from sketches and photographs created during her wanderings. Her work captures the unique landscapes, people and architecture of nearby and distant locales with an emphasis on the interplay of color and light.
To me, the challenge of the two dimensional canvas is to create a fourth dimension, that of movement. To accomplish this, I take advantage of the plasticity of oil paint, bold brush strokes, and strong color. The vivid areas of color and form fighting with each other to hold the picture plane create tension and, thus, movement.
