Artist Spotlight: Lexie Mountain

Alexandra "Lexie Mountain" Macchi lives in the Baltimore City neighborhood of Waverly. A devout interdisciplinarian, she produces video, sound work, sculpture, drawings, paintings, writings and multimedia installations.

Her curatorial efforts appeared at Floristree, School 33, and Load of Fun Gallery, with 2010ʼs DRAWING OUT at the Hexagon Gallery garnering a Top Ten nod from Baltimore Citypaper. She is a freelance writer and critic for Motherboard.tv, Baltimore Citypaper, Baltimore Sunʼs Midnight Sun blog and her own blog Human Pyramids. In 2011 Macchi curated a weekend-long storefront rear-projection video exhibition for Transmodern Festival, co-founded the Baltimore Blue Ribbon Ice Cream Championship with Dan Deacon, and began graduate studies at UMBC in the IMDA MFA Program.

She presently works as a Graduate Research Assistant at UMBC's Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture. Founder and member of all-female experimental a capella collective Lexie Mountain Boys and avant-rock group Crazy Dreams Band, Macchi collaborates regularly with a wide variety of performers and musicians in Baltimore and beyond. Her recent solo performance involves synthesizer, voice and video, engaging motifs of identity and play.

Ms Macchiʼs first solo exhibition, “Wish You Were Here”, is part of the Highlandtown Arts Districtʼs Pop-Up Gallery project (a partnership between Highlandtown Arts District / Center for Art Design and Visual Culture at University of Baltimore Maryland County) and opens Saturday March 3 5-9pm at 3216 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore Maryland.
