Artist Spotlight
Dominique Zeltzman
Dominique Zeltzman’s interest in mapping everyday moments through photography, sculpture, and installation evolved from mapping everyday movements through choreography and video. Inspired by life’s residue, her current project, Detritustrata, explores ways we mark time in our tides of garbage, piles of laundry, and dirty dishes.
Opening at Schiavone Gallery in September, the images capture the color and composition found in the offal of daily meals. Sculptural plastic pillows stuffed with multicolored lint illustrate the strata of three years of clothing, hair and skin. Wasted food lines shelves, in the form of desiccated produce.

Gene Ween to headline festival marking
official commemoration of
Frank Zappa Day
Sat, Sept 17, 2011
ManiFESTo: A Declaration of Free Expression, the official commemoration events for Frank Zappa Day, to take place September 17 at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Conkling Street in Highlandtown. Scheduled to run from noon to 9pm is the offspring of last year’s dedication of Baltimore’s Frank Zappa bust and proclamation of Frank Zappa Day and Frank Zappa Way (the stretch of Eastern Avenue that encompasses the Highlandtown Arts & Entertainment District).
This year ManiFESTo, the official commemoration of Frank Zappa Day, is expanding into a broader music and arts festival with a full day of music (currently over 16 bands) and a wide array of arts and entertainment attractions including body art, a Red Emma’s banned book fair, a “Shocked and Amazed” Old City Side Show, a Charm City Skate Park half pipe, “Ahmet’s Play House” featuring Ahmet Zappa, the inaugural Free Mind Award, and much more. Details can be found at www.manifestobaltimore.com
ManiFESTo is produced by Clearpath Entertainment and the Southeast Community Development Corporation in collaboration with the Zappa Family Trust, Mission Media, Highlandtown Arts & Entertainment District, The Creative Alliance at the Patterson, and the Enoch Pratt Free Library.
